Crime as a social phenomenon isn’t a new one. From the first crime of one brother assaulting the other in the Bible to modern times, crime is a social issue. Many persons believe that crime is caused by inequality, but this is not true. Crime is a multilayered occurrence. This essay seeks to argue against this point and posit that crime is caused by mental illness.
Crime is most definitely caused by mental illness. Mental illness is what it says on the tin. It is a sickness of the mind. When persons have irregular thought patterns, they do irregular things. Crime is one of those irregular things that occurs as a result of mental illness. Persons may decide to take money from another to solve their immediate needs, instead of doing the more mainstream action of working and spending their own salary. In conclusion, crime is not caused by inequality. Crime is caused by mental illness among other things.
