Drugs are drugs are drugs. This is the idea that all drugs carry the same weight in that they are substances that alter one’s sobriety. Alcohol and cigarette users believe that they are more moral than other drug users because their vice is legal and sold commercially. This essay shall argue the opposite, that alcohol and cigarette users should not feel morally superior to other drug users, and are instead, hypocrites.
Cigarette and alcohol users are hypocrites for condemning other types of drug users because all drugs function in the same way. Drugs alter the user’s brain chemistry to feel more relaxed. Different drugs use different chemicals to get to the same place. Alcohol uses ethanol. Cigarettes use tobacco. Marijuana uses THC. Other drugs have other active ingredients. The point still remains the same. Drugs alter one’s brain chemistry and affects their sobriety. Alcohol and cigarettes being legal does not change their effect on the body. To feel haughty over other drug users is hypocritical because drugs are drugs are drugs, and alcohol is the same as marijuana in that the end result, being high is the same.
To conclude, alcohol and cigarette users are hypocrites when chastising marijuana and illegal drug users. All drugs alter one’s brain chemistry to be more relaxed, and one drug being legal over another does not change the end result.
