The body paragraph develops the main idea of the essay. It starts with a topic sentence that highlights the main point of that part of the essay to be argued. Following the topic sentence, supporting details are added to flesh out the topic sentence. Facts, statistics, examples or even quotations are added to help support the argument being put forth in this paragraph. These forms of evidence should be analyzed to show how the supports reinforce the argument being made. A concluding sentence wraps up the paragraph. It summarizes the paragraph’s main idea and links it back to the essay’s thesis.
