This question ran through my head recently, and I have come up with a solution. I have a list of 30 words that a student can include in their essays to give them more punch, more substance, make them more compelling. This list can be used in a student’s CXC prep/ CSEC prep. Please do utilize the list below.
Alleviate β to reduce or ease a burden or problem
Ambiguous β having more than one possible meaning; unclear
Advocate β to support or argue in favor of something
Assertive β confidently self-assured without being aggressive
Bias β a tendency to favor one side unfairly
Coherent β logical and consistent
Credible β believable and trustworthy
Counterargument β an opposing viewpoint to oneβs claim
Detrimental β harmful or damaging
Empirical β based on observation or experience rather than theory
Equitable β fair and just
Feasible β possible and practical
Fundamental β forming a necessary base or core
Hypocrisy β claiming to have moral standards without actually practicing them
Ideology β a set of beliefs or principles, especially in politics or society
Impartial β neutral, without bias
Inherent β existing as a natural or essential part of something
Inevitable β certain to happen; unavoidable
Justifiable β able to be shown as right or reasonable
Marginalized β pushed to the edge or made less important
Mitigate β to make less severe or serious
Notion β an idea or belief
Plausible β seeming reasonable or likely
Prevalent β widespread or commonly occurring
Rationale β a reason or explanation for something
Reinforce β to strengthen or support
