A sentence is a group of words that expresses a complete thought. It usually contains a Subject (who or what the sentence is about) and a Predicate (what the subject is doing or what is being said about the subject.)

A sentence must begin with a Capital Letter and end with a Full Stop (.), Question Mark (?) or an Exclamation Mark (!).

Below is an example of a sentence.

“The river is rising quickly.”

  • Subject: The river
  • Predicate: is rising quickly
  • This sentence tells us a complete thought about what the river is doing.

So go ahead and ensure your sentences are up to scratch. I hope all writers use this tip in their CXC prep/ CSEC prep.
