📌 Pun
Definition:
A pun is a form of wordplay that exploits multiple meanings of a word—or similar-sounding words—for a humorous or rhetorical effect.
Puns are often witty, playful, and sometimes groan-worthy!
✅ Example:
“Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana.”
- The first “flies” is a verb (time flies = time passes quickly).
- The second “flies” is a noun (fruit flies = small insects).
- It plays on the double meaning of “flies.”
🎯 More Quick Examples:
- “I used to be a baker, but I couldn’t make enough dough.”
→ “Dough” = bread mixture and money. - “A boiled egg every morning is hard to beat.”
→ “Hard to beat” = difficult to surpass & literally hard-boiled. - “No matter how much you push the envelope, it’ll still be stationery.”
→ “Stationery” = paper products; also plays on “stationary” = not moving.
