📌 Polysyndeton
Definition:
Polysyndeton is a literary device where conjunctions (like and, or, but) are used repeatedly in quick succession—more than is grammatically necessary—to slow the rhythm and add emphasis or intensity.
✅ Example:
“I laughed and talked and ate and danced all night.”
- The repeated “and” builds a sense of overwhelm, excitement, or exhaustion, depending on the context.
🎯 More Examples:
- “He ran and jumped and shouted for joy.”
- “We have ships and men and money and stores.” – Julius Caesar
- “It was dark and cold and wet and miserable.”
- “She is kind and patient and strong and wise.”
✨ Effect:
- Creates rhythm
- Adds weight to each item
- Can evoke emotion, tension, or a sense of being overwhelmed
