📌 Homograph

Definition:
A homograph is a word that is spelled the same as another word but has a different meaning. Homographs may or may not be pronounced the same.

Examples:

  1. Lead
    • “The pipes are made of lead.” (the metal)
    • “I will lead the team to victory.” (to guide)
  2. Tear
    • “A tear rolled down her cheek.” (from the eye)
    • “Be careful not to tear the paper.” (to rip)

✨ Note:

  • If they are pronounced the same, they are also homophones.
  • If they are pronounced differently (like tear), they’re specifically heteronyms.

And there you go! Now go forth and use homographs in your CXC prep/ CSEC prep.
