📌 Anthropomorphism

Definition:
Anthropomorphism is a literary device where animals, objects, or non-human beings are given human characteristics, including emotions, speech, intentions, or physical behaviors.
Unlike personification (which is often figurative or poetic), anthropomorphism makes the non-human entity actually behave like a human.

Example:

In Winnie the Pooh by A.A. Milne:
Characters like Pooh, Piglet, and Tigger talk, wear clothes, express emotions, and have friendships — just like humans.

  • They don’t just represent human traits; they fully live as human-like characters.

🔁 Quick Comparison:

DeviceWhat It Does
AnthropomorphismMakes non-humans actually act like humans (walking, talking, thinking)
PersonificationGives human qualities to things symbolically (e.g., “the wind whispered”)

And there you have it! Now go ahead and use anthropomorphism in your CXC prep/ CSEC prep.
