📌 Antanagoge

Definition:
Antanagoge is a rhetorical device in which a negative point is immediately followed by a positive one, often to lessen the impact of the negative or to create a balanced perspective.

Example:

“The car is old, but it runs beautifully.”

  • The negative: “The car is old”
  • The positive: “but it runs beautifully”
  • This balances criticism with praise, softening the overall statement.

Another example:

“I lost the game, but I learned a lot in the process.”

  • Here, the setback is countered by a positive outcome, maintaining a constructive tone.

And there it is! Now go ahead and use antanagoge in your CXC prep/ CSEC prep.
