📌 Dysphemism

Definition:
A dysphemism is a figure of speech where a harsh, blunt, or offensive term is used instead of a more neutral or pleasant one. It’s the opposite of euphemism. Dysphemisms are often used to shock, criticize, or convey contempt.

Example:

  • Saying “geezer” instead of “elderly man.”
  • Saying “junk food” instead of “fast food.”
  • Referring to a prison as a “slammer” instead of a “correctional facility.”
