Adynaton is a literary device in which the writer or speaker uses exaggeration so extreme that it becomes impossible. It’s a form of hyperbole, but pushed to an unrealistic or absurd level to emphasize a point.

Example:

  • “I’ll believe it when pigs fly.”
  • “He promised to love her until the rivers dry up and the mountains crumble into dust.”

👉 The impossibility is the key — it stresses the unlikelihood of the event happening.

And there you have it! Now go ahead and use adynaton in your CXC prep/ CSEC prep.
