📌 Antiphrasis

Definition:
Antiphrasis is a rhetorical device in which a word or phrase is used in a sense opposite to its usual meaning, often for irony or humorous effect.


Example:

  • Saying “What a pleasant day!” during a hurricane.
  • Calling a very tall man “Shorty.”
  • Referring to a clumsy person as “Graceful.”
