Definition:
Apotheosis is a literary device in which a character or figure is elevated to divine status or glorified to the point of perfection. It can be literal (in myths) or metaphorical (in literature or speeches).


Example:

  • In Homer’s The Iliad, Achilles is often described with god-like qualities, achieving apotheosis in his prowess and heroism.
  • In modern terms: “Martin Luther King Jr. became the very embodiment of justice and hope for millions.”

It emphasizes veneration, idealization, or heroic perfection.
