📌 Pleonasm

Definition:
Pleonasm is a literary or rhetorical device where more words than necessary are used to express an idea. Sometimes it’s considered redundant, but in literature or speech, it can add emphasis, clarity, or style.

Examples:

  • “I saw it with my own eyes.” (the phrase with my own eyes is redundant, since I saw it already implies that)
  • “They heard it with their ears.”
  • “We are gathered here together.”

👉 Pleonasm can be unintentional redundancy or a deliberate stylistic choice to make speech more vivid.
