📌 Autonomasia

Definition:
Autonomasia is a rhetorical device in which a proper name is replaced with a descriptive phrase, epithet, or title, or vice versa. It often emphasizes a characteristic, role, or reputation of the person or thing.

Example:

  • Referring to Shakespeare as “The Bard.”
  • Calling Napoleon “The Little Corporal.”
  • Saying “The Iron Lady” instead of Margaret Thatcher.

💡 Autonomasia highlights identity through description rather than a literal name, making it memorable or emphasizing a trait.

And there it is! Now go ahead and use autonomasia in your CXC prep/ CSEC prep.
