📌 Enallage

Definition:
Enallage is a rhetorical device where the writer or speaker deliberately uses incorrect grammar, tense, or word form to create a stylistic effect. Instead of following strict grammar rules, the “wrong” usage draws attention, adds emphasis, or conveys a particular tone.

Examples:

  1. “We was robbed!” — instead of “We were robbed.” (emphasizes outrage).
  2. Shakespeare: “Is there not wars? Is there not employment?” — uses nonstandard subject-verb agreement for dramatic effect.

💡 In short, enallage bends grammar rules on purpose to make language more powerful, emotional, or memorable.
