Correctio is a rhetorical device where the speaker or writer deliberately corrects themselves mid-sentence, either to clarify, strengthen, or refine what they’ve just said. It often adds emphasis or shows a shift from understatement to a more precise or powerful expression.

Definition: The act of retracting or revising a statement to replace it with something more accurate or impactful.

Example:

  • “He is a good man—no, an exceptional man who has dedicated his life to helping others.”
  • “It was the worst day of my life—or rather, the worst day so far.”

And there it is! Now go ahead and use correctio in your CXC prep/CSEC prep.
