Definition:
A dialogue is a conversation between two or more characters in a literary, dramatic, or narrative work. It is used to reveal character traits, advance the plot, develop conflict, or convey information in a natural and engaging way.
Example:
From Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird:
Scout: “Do you defend n******, Atticus?”
Atticus: “Of course I do. Don’t say n******, Scout. That’s common.”
Scout: “’s what everybody at school says.”
Atticus: “From now on it’ll be everybody less one.”
Here, the dialogue between Scout and Atticus shows their father-daughter relationship, Atticus’s moral integrity, and the social tensions of their time.
And there it is! Now go ahead and use dialogue in your CXC prep/CSEC prep.
