Global warming can be described as the gradual rise in the Earth’s overall temperature. Scientists the world over have yet to come to a consensus as to whether or not global warming exists, and this lack of agreement can lead to disastrous consequences worldwide. In this essay, I shall argue that global warming is a real threat to the Earth.

Global warming threatens the Earth because of changing destructive weather phenomena. It doesn’t take a genius to notice that as of late, nature is out of balance. With the increase in global ambient heat, we have more and stronger hurricanes. Hurricanes are powered by the warmth of the ocean. So if we add more heat to an already warm sea, this equals more hurricanes. Within recent times, hurricanes have been found in non-traditional places wreaking havoc in the areas. Many a scientist have speculated that global warming is to be blamed for the increase in hurricanes and the destruction left in their wakes. Global warming is a threat to livelihood, which should concern each citizen.

Global warming also threatens the Earth by destroying coral reefs, an integral part of islands’ ecosystems. Coral reefs are home to many species of aquatic fauna. Reefs house entire ecosystems, and keep the sea population balanced and healthy. Bigger fishes come to reefs to eat smaller fishes. We humans catch these bigger fishes to consume. Without reefs, there would be little to no fish for us humans to eat. With the worldwide warming of the seas, corals are destroyed. They need a certain temperature of the surrounding water to survive. Humans risk starvation when global warming eradicates the coral reefs. Global warming is a real threat to the Earth and human survival.

In conclusion, global warming threatens the Earth daily with its negative effects. It increases the frequency and intensity of hurricanes, which can cause loss of livelihood. It also destroys coral reefs, which are essential for having fish for humans to eat. Global warming is a real threat that persons should focus on.
