Art is meant to be enjoyed. This is a popular sentiment about media in general. Media is created to entertain, to raise eyebrows, to tickle the imagination. Some media veers far right in the sensational direction. Some songs are quite sexually suggestive, even touch on violence, and oftentimes are played on the radio and the television. Some persons clamor that these controversial songs should be banned from the radio and television. This essay seeks to argue why these songs should not be allowed to play on these mediums because of their negative influence on young persons.
Life imitates art. Art imitates life. This is the way of the world. If persons via the sung media glorify gratuitous sexual activity and senseless violence against one another, this will definitely influence persons in society to follow in these persons’ footsteps. Studies have shown that high amounts of playing of violent video games lead to more violent young people, and higher levels of incarceration and loss of liberty in the under 25 populations. Some cities have used these statistics to ban video games from minors, and eventually saw a reduction in young people committing violent crime in their areas. If this is to be believed, one can assume that listening to many songs about negative behaviors can also influence persons to do the same. Persons singing positively about no strings attached coitus can lead to more incidences of no strings attached relations. This eventually causes broken families, reduced income for young parents over their lifetime, and strain on the government’s pocket to allocate more and more money for social services like payments for single parents to adequately care for these children who resulted from no strings attached sexual relations songs. Sexually suggestive and violent songs should be banned from the radio and television because they negatively affect young people.
In conclusion, violent and raunchy songs have no place on the radio and television. These songs influence the listeners to commit these glorified negative acts, and harm society in the process. Violent songs cause violent acts. Sexually suggestive acts create a sexually loose society, which aren’t great for the community in the long term. Therefore, these types of songs should be banned from the radio.
