From the dawn of time, man has been writing things down. There are ancient cave etchings that show man’s desire to not only read, but to pass on information to others by them reading. Persons have debated that television is the better medium for instructing children, as opposed to reading. This essay will argue the opposite, that reading is the superior method to teach children over using the television.

Reading is the ideal way to teach children. It is the old reliable. It has endured because it is effective. Television is very distracting. It has images whirring and whizzing about the screen that take away from the point of an educational segment, which is to educate. Television also has overly loud songs that accompany the garish visuals that are too over the top. Not a lot of learning if any can occur when the television is involved in education. Reading is plain by design. It consists of black words on a white page. There are no embedded audios to take away from the learning. Therefore, reading is the more effective method to instruct, if one has to choose between reading and the television.

To summarize, reading is more effective at teaching children than the television. Television is distracting visually and aurally. Reading is the right choice for teaching, and the television should be ignored completely in the classroom.
