“Once a man, twice a child.” This is a popular Bible quote that highlights something in the lifespan of man, that he is not at his optimal ability to care for himself twice, when he is a child, and when he is elderly. All humans need old age care plans. Many persons believe that the elderly should be taken care of by their family members. This essay will argue in favor of this point, that young people should take care of their family members.

The elderly should be cared for by their family members because it is a cheap option for old age care. Nursing homes take up a great majority if not all of an elderly person’s pension. While nursing homes do offer a service, the service oftentimes isn’t adequate, to serve each older person. These elderly people need some of their pensions for other purchases not supplied by the nursing homes like paying for experiences outside of the home, or gifting monies to grandchildren for birthdays. In the case where an elderly person is cared for by family, they can save on living expenses by living communally with family. They can also have more money to do the things that they want to do, or pay for other necessities not provided by a nursing home. Therefore, living with family is the better option for elder care, when compared to living in a nursing home.

To summarize, elderly persons should be cared for by their family members. They save money by living with their family, which can be used for their benefit, as opposed to lining the pockets of nursing homes, and them having less money.
