English A Essay – Sportsmen Should Not Be Role Models for Young People – Against

People are only human. Humans are infallible beings. There is a trending thought that sports men should be role models for young people, and this is an incorrect thought to have. This essay shall argue against this idea, and put forth the thought that sports personnel, both men and women alike should not be role models for young people.

Sports people should not be role models for children because they are imperfect beings. To place someone on a pedestal is to think of them as perfect, and no human is perfect. Imagine that a government praises an athlete for doing well in their sport, and they commit some act that is not received well in society. What message does that send to young people? Does it mean that committing hypothetical crimes is okay once one excels in their field? No. To pedestalize a person as an example of what one should aspire to be, and to witness their inevitable fall from grace as fallible humans is to confuse young persons. Sports personnel should not be immediately used as role models for young people.

In conclusion, sports men should not be used as role models for the youth. People are imperfect, and when these infallible persons mess up in life, it will send the wrong message to youths, which is not what governments should want to model to them.
