English A Essay – Corporal Punishment is the Best Way to Discipline Children – Against

“Spare the rod, spoil the child.” This is a popular Bible verse that is often brought up when persons justify corporal punishment as a way to discipline children. This essay shall argue against corporal punishment being the best way to discipline children.

Corporal punishment is not the best way to discipline children because all it does it breed fear of authority figures. The point of beating children after they offend is to dissuade them from repeating their unwanted actions. Many times, parents or persons in charge of children do not explain why the children are being beaten. They simply dole out lashes onto the young persons and expect them to learn their lessons via osmosis. Corporal punishment isn’t an effective way to discipline children because beatings are often random, unstructured and not allowing children to reflect on their actions in a predictable way. All children learn is that occasionally they mess up and their parents or guardians beat them, which isn’t an effective teaching method.

To summarize, beatings aren’t an effective way to discipline children. Beatings only confuse children on what they did wrong and lead children to fear their parents and guardians.
