Braindrain is the migration of qualified personnel out of their home country to enrich another country. Braindrain is a real issue, as governments scramble to prevent their brightest minds from leaving their shores. This essay shall argue in favor of the idea that governments should do their best to keep their qualified persons in house.
Braindrain should be avoided to ensure that a territory remains financially prosperous. A country needs manpower to generate income, and be able to purchase foods not grown locally for all citizens. Persons must be able to perform the jobs that earn income for the country. In a country like Trinidad and Tobago, the oil and gas industry, which is a primary earner of GDP needs smart minds to man the various instruments for extraction and processing of the natural resources. Therefore, it is imperative that the Trinbagonian government keep its brilliant minds certified in the area of petrochemicals to keep its industry going.
To conclude, governments should make it a priority to keep all intelligent minds in the territory. The financial prosperity of countries depends on them keeping a cadre of qualified persons to hold important jobs in the area.
