Healthcare is not a right. It is a privilege. There is an argument to be made about it being morally good to care for all, regardless of legal status. However, ideology has no place in politics. This essay shall argue against the idea that governments should fund healthcare for all persons within their territories.

Governments should not foot the healthcare bill for all inhabitants in their space because that could lead to bankruptcy. Healthcare is expensive. There are routine checks, and not so routine checks. There is one off care and continuous care. There are generic medicines, and there is name brand medicine. To ask a government to provide these services and more to not only their citizenry but tourists and illegal immigrants is asking too much. This unfair ask has a cost, and it could drain the government’s coffers. Governments need a surplus of money to pay public servants and afford essential services for all. Healthcare for all could jeopardize this responsibility. Therefore, governments should not pay for healthcare for all persons.

To summarize, healthcare should not be sponsored by the government as it is too costly of an ask. Governments have other bills to pay, and healthcare as a universal right should not be one of them.
