Children are people too. They are underaged people, sure. Children are people, nonetheless. Children are affected by decisions made by management. Many a person believes that children should have no say in how schools are run. This essay shall argue the opposite, that principals should survey their student population when making decisions that affect it.
Children should have input in how schools are run because they are the persons who feel the effects of all decisions made. Schools cater to students. They aren’t built for the teachers, the administration. They aren’t made for the security guards, the counselors or the cafeteria personnel. Schools are made for students. Whenever a decision is made, students are affected the most. When recess is cut in half, students have less time to relax, eat and prepare for their next class. This can have a negative effect on their wellbeing, as children need routine to function well. If a student had an input in the choice to reduce the length of their break, then persons in administration could take their views into consideration and make a well-informed decision that is for the students’ benefit. Here we see that student input is crucial in decision-making, and that principals should consult students whenever changes need to be made.
In conclusion, principals should consult with students whenever they need to make decisions for student welfare. Students are the recipients of these decisions, and can give valuable insight into their preferences to have the entire school in a comfortable environment.
