Leave decision-making to the adults. This is a common thought among adults, that the ones that are older should decide for the younger. This essay shall argue against the idea that students should be consulted by principals when deciding on school matters.
School children should not be consulted by principals because they lack the experience to make well rounded decisions. Adults have experiences under their belt. They have been through the wringer and live to tell the tale. Children cannot say the same. Principals would have undergone so much training to occupy their spot. They would be knowledgeable in the areas of curriculum design, child welfare, the importance of culture in education, as well as many more areas. Therefore, they are better prepared to decide the welfare of students than the students themselves. Take the idea to do away with physical education as a subject taught in schools. Students may cite P.E.’s lack of immediate usefulness in the working world as a reason to remove it from the curriculum. But a principal may have read studies that show exercise’s positive effect on brain development in adolescence and insist on keeping P.E. in schools. Therefore, students should not be consulted by principals when making decisions over their well-being.
In conclusion, principals should not consult their populace when deciding what is best for the children. The students are not learned enough to make informed decisions for themselves. The principals are the better party to make these decisions.
