English A Essay – One Caribbean Team Should Represent the Region in All Events – Against

The Caribbean is not a monolith. There is so much to explore from this tiny but varied territory. Many persons believe that one group should represent the Caribbean in events, and this is the wrong idea to have. This essay shall argue against the putting forth of one Caribbean contingent to represent all the islands.

There are too many constraints in picking one team to effectively choose representatives for the Caribbean. Bigger and richer Caribbean islands can afford to send more persons to compete for a space on the Caribbean team. It may result that countries like Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica make up the majority of a “Caribbean” cohort of athletes at an international game. The Caribbean has 50 million residents, and they don’t all come from two Caribbean countries. If each country were to put together their own team and have each team find a space, maybe a smaller island may reach a final leg of an international competition, as opposed to not be represented at all because of monetary constraints and politics in the Caribbean region.

Therefore, the Caribbean should not have one team to represent the area. Each island in the territory should put forth their representatives and let the best country win.
