Shelter is one of the basic human needs, along with food and clothing. This shows its great importance. Many persons are without permanent shelter, and this is to their detriment. This essay shall argue in favor of homeless persons being given housing by the government.
The government should give homes to the homeless to prevent a lot of crimes. Persons who live on the streets are often victims of crime. They are beaten, robbed and subjected to an untold number of abuses. Stating this fact is not to victim blame the homeless for experiencing misfortune. It is simply to say that instead of trying to prevent criminals from perpetuating crimes against these vulnerable persons, the government should place the unhoused in homes to not have a place for these crimes to take place in the first place. Housing is a human need, and the government with all of its power can provide housing to the unhoused.
To summarize, the government should provide houses to persons without homes. This act can decrease the amount of crimes committed against the unhoused, which is an overall good for society.
