Countries are not charities. They are businesses in the truest sense of the word. Countries have to turn a profit to remain financially solvent for the good of the population. Many persons incorrectly believe that the homeless should be gifted homes. This essay shall argue against this idea, that the government should not provide homes for persons without lodging.
Governments should not provide houses for the homeless because that money should be spent on more important items. As mentioned above, countries are not charities. Monies are not unlimited. They are limited and should be responsibly spent. Each person has a responsibility to provide for their basic needs. They must ensure that they have food, clothing and shelter. It is not the government’s job to fill in the blanks when lazy persons do not want to work and provide for themselves. The government should allocate finances towards the vulnerable like children, the elderly or the infirmed. Lazy able-bodied adults should make their way in the world and get their own lodging and not depend on the government to provide for their basic needs.
To conclude, the government is not responsible for housing the unhoused on its dime. The government should spend valuable resources on persons who cannot fend for themselves, and not on persons who can obtain their own housing with a little bit of work on their part.
