Everyone has freedoms. Adults have freedoms. Teenagers have freedoms. Children also have freedoms. While students submit themselves to the rigors of the schooling system, they adopt certain behaviors and leave others behind. Many believe that schools violate students’ freedoms. This essay shall argue the opposite, that schools do not infringe on children’s liberties.
Schools by their nature do not violate students’ freedoms. Yes, it is true that children cannot speak profanities if they choose to do so, but that does not mean that they do not enjoy freedom of expression. Students can form student groups and are often asked their opinions on school matters. It isn’t that they go to school and are under autocratic rule. They are not completely censored in their speech. They are prevented from offending others, and that action by itself does not constitute an infringement of student freedoms.
To summarize, student rights are not infringed upon in school. Students are prevented from verbally abusing others with profane speech, but this isn’t a violation of their freedoms.
