School should be a place for effective learning. Taxpayer dollars are not infinite and should be used wisely when spending on student education. Many persons hold the belief that music, art, dance and drama should be cut from the school curriculum. This essay shall argue in favor of this view and put forth the idea that the arts should be removed from the student workload.
The arts should be removed from the school academic roster because students need to be exposed to subjects that can help them earn a decent amount of money. Statistics have shown that a career in the arts isn’t lucrative. On average, persons with music, art, dance and drama certifications earn 30% less income than persons with STEM, law or education degrees. This is important to note because inflation and a steadily rising cost of living mean that every cent counts. Having a less than average salary doesn’t bode well for persons who wish to live a decent life, where they can afford life’s necessities like food, clothing and shelter, as well as their wants like a car, international travel and to support their own family. If a person in this here modern society would like to live a life comparable to the average man, they should not pursue a career in the arts. They would not earn enough money to live their average life. Therefore, the arts should not be taught to children, so as to disenfranchise them from an early age via their education.
To summarize, the arts should not be taught in schools. Persons who pursue careers in this area report lower earnings over a lifetime when compared to the average salary. Teaching children the arts would doom them to a less than average financial life.
