Children’s plates are overfilled in school. The school day is set up such that they are doing far too much work. And then here comes homework, to throw their day even more off balance. This essay shall argue in favor of the idea that homework should be banned for school-aged children.

Homework should be banned for children because it does not help students learn effectively. All homework does is get children to write the same sums over and over again. Learning is so much more than regurgitating information learned by rote. Students learn by doing things. Some learners learn physically, that is to say, they learn via movement and dance and acting out scenarios. Others learn via group work and interacting with their peers. Many students are visual learners, and need bright and colorful diagrams to really understand a concept being taught. Most homework assignments learn on students working with flat black and white pages, and filling in boring answers to boring questions. Doing homework lacks the extra bits and pieces of the learning process that students need. Therefore, homework should be banned for students in schools because it is unhelpful and unnecessary in the learning process.

To conclude, homework as a concept should be banned for school-aged students. Homework doesn’t achieve what it sets out to achieve, which is reinforce learning. It only bores students and takes the interest out of learning.
